2021 Nonprofit Certificate Program

Strengthen ND’s Nonprofit Certificate Program was established to meet the capacity building needs of nonprofit professionals and volunteers. The intent of the Nonprofit Certificate Program is to provide an opportunity for nonprofit professionals and volunteers to learn the basics of nonprofit management through six structured, online sessions.


Strengthen ND leverages the expertise of experienced nonprofit professionals to facilitate program sessions featuring topics of nonprofit management, including board governance, finance, human resources, grantseeking and grant writing, marketing and public relations, fundraising, and strategic planning.

Nonprofit Finance Basics 

Determining the financial health of your nonprofit, managing risk by learning how to understand your organization’s balance sheet and financial indicators, internal controls best practices.

Human Resources

principles of HR management, recruiting well, hiring the best, onboarding, setting measurable performance objectives, performance/behavior competencies, and off boarding employees.

Strategic Planning, Friend Raising & Action Planning 

Learning how to grow your stakeholder to include people outside of your organization for long-term and short-term visioning; the process of writing a strategic plan, executing annual plans; and project management. Marketing your Mission.

Building a Comprehensive Development Plan

 Discussion on locating local, regional, and national grant makers, 

how to build a proposal, and shared resources from area grant makers.

Discussion on donor relations and making the ask; hosting fundraising,

versus friendraising events; and embarking on capital campaigns.
